Mustapha Abdul Hamid, Ghana's information minister, announced that it will launch a long - expected MDA rooftop solar scheme in 2018.
Under the new scheme, the applicant only needs to pay the cost of the system (BOS), that is, inverters, batteries, charging controllers, circuit breakers, switches, cables and installation. The photovoltaic system can sell residual electricity to the local grid through a net measurement, and there is no upper limit. As of the first half of 2016, Ghana had a total of 23.22 megawatts grid connected photovoltaic capacity. The country's renewable energy target is to reach a coverage of 10% in the whole country in 2020. Ghana has about 30% people without electricity supply currently, and the government plans is increasing power generating capacity to 5.5 gigawatts in 2026. |
